Hi.

Welcome! I document my adventures in reading, writing, and drinking (mostly coffee).

June 2023 :: Added to my TBR

June 2023 :: Added to my TBR

I added (digitally to my Goodreads TBR) so many books in June!

Looking back, here are my TOP FIVE priority adds for June 2023:

My Murder by Katie Williams (Contemporary Fiction, Psychological Thriller, published June 2023): Lou is a happily married mother of an adorable toddler. She’s also the victim of a local serial killer. Recently brought back to life and returned to her grieving family by a government project, she is grateful for this second chance. But as the new Lou re-adapts to her old routines, and as she bonds with other female victims, she realizes that disturbing questions remain about what exactly preceded her death and how much she can really trust those around her.

Hedge by Jane Dulery (Contemporary Fiction, published June 2023): Maud is a talented garden historian and devoted mom to daughters Ella and Louise. Motivated to reignite her career and escape her troubled marriage, she accepts a summer job restoring the garden of a lush, 19th-century estate in the Hudson Valley. She meets Gabriel, and Maud starts to imagine a future outside of her stifling marriage. Once Ella and Louise arrive, however, she is torn by her desire for Gabriel and her obligations to her daughters.

Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Fairies by Heather Fawcett (Young Adult, Coming of Age, LGBTQ+, published January 2023): Cambridge professor Emily Wilde is good at many things: She is the foremost expert on the study of faeries. She is a genius scholar and a meticulous researcher who is writing the world’s first encyclopaedia of faerie lore. But Emily Wilde is not good at people. She could never make small talk at a party—or even get invited to one. And she prefers the company of her books, her dog, Shadow, and the Fair Folk to other people. Note: This is Book 1 of a series.

Social Justice for the Sensitive Soul (Non-fiction, published June 2023): Social justice work, we often assume, is raised voices and raised fists. It requires leading, advocating, fighting, and organizing wherever it takes place--in the streets, slums, villages, inner cities, halls of political power, and more. But what does social justice work look like for those of us who don't feel comfortable battling in the trenches?

The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy (Fantasy and Romance, published August 2023): Hart is a marshal, tasked with patrolling the strange and magical wilds of Tanria. It’s an unforgiving job, and Hart’s got nothing but time to ponder his loneliness.  Mercy never has a moment to herself. She’s been single-handedly keeping Birdsall & Son Undertakers afloat in defiance of sullen jerks like Hart, who seems to have a gift for showing up right when her patience is thinnest.
