Hi.

Welcome! I document my adventures in reading, writing, and drinking (mostly coffee).

Ofelia and Norma by Donna Miscolta

Synopsis: Ofelia and Norma are twins and have always been inseparable, rarely needing friends or even their parents. As they start college - their first two years together at a community college and their last two years at separate universities - their lives begin to diverge, and they lose each other. Both have tough experiences, struggling with their bodies, their parents, and their friendships. Ultimately, they both must find their own way.

Content warnings for sexual assault and disordered eating.

Review: Sister stories are one of my great, true reading loves, and this one did not disappoint. I am also a big fan of strong female leads, and both Ofelia and Norma are that, despite little parental and societal support. I can’t pretend to know Ofelia’s and Norma’s experience of being brown, but I felt like I truly bonded with them, and empathized with some of their food and body struggles. I loved the way the author walked us alongside their ups and downs. They each had to forge their own path before coming back together with a new love and appreciation for one another.
