What to Watch : Bridgerton, Shrinking, and The Pitt
It’s early 2026 and there is so much excellent TV out there! Here are three of my favorites to kick off the year. All my favorites are multi-season shows, and I would recommend binging any and all seasons of each respective show. Brief synopsis below and a few book recommendations to match.
The Pitt : Season 2 on HBO
The Pitt is a medical drama about the doctors, nurses, and staff working a high-pressure shift in a busy Pittsburgh emergency department. The series follows them in near real-time (each episode is one hour of their shift) as they treat trauma victims and cope with the emotional toll of constant life-and-death decisions. Both seasons of this show are intense, so prep yourself for some drama and some blood!
Book recs to match: Emergency Room by Caroline B. Cooney (fiction) or A Thousand Naked Strangers by Kevin Hazzard (non-fiction)
Shrinking : Season 3 on Apple TV
Shrinking is a dramady about a therapist who starts breaking all the rules of therapy after struggling with grief over his wife’s death. Jimmy, the grieving therapist, starts ignoring professional boundaries and tells his patients exactly what he thinks after the death of his wife. His unconventional approach shocks his colleagues, Paul and Gaby. He also is repairing his relationship with his daughter Alice, as well as his neighbor Liz.
Book recs to match: The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion (fiction) or Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb (non-fiction)
Bridgerton : Season 4 on Netflix
Bridgerton is a period piece set in London that follows the wealthy Bridgerton family as they navigate society, romance, and scandal. The mysterious Lady Whistledown writes about The Ton and exposes secrets that threaten to upend high society. Each season focuses on a different member of the Bridgerton family, exploring new romances and drama. Season 4 focuses on Benedict and Sophie, a remake of the Cinderella story.
Books recs to match: Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld or The Duke and I (and the rest of the eight book series!) by Julia Quinn
