Book Review :: Weyward by Emilia Hart
Weyward by Emilia Hart (☆ ☆ ☆ ☆)
“The connections between and among women are the most feared, the most problematic, and the most potentially transforming force on the planet.” - Emilia Hart
This book! Hello witchy women!
Weyward is an intense and gorgeous novel that takes readers on a journey through the lives of three wild and daring women - Kate, Violet, and Altha. Kate’s storyline is set in 2019, Violet’s in the 1940s, and Altha’s further back in the early 1600s, and the author binds them together seamlessly and adds just the right amount of magic. All three women live wildly different lives, but find themselves caught up in similar paths; the world is not kind to them. They each desire to change their respective stories and forge their own paths.
Hart's writing is lovely, vividly depicting cozy and soft gardens next to some more uncomfortable and violent scenes. The novel's quaint setting is key to all the characters, all find both power and solace in caring for the same cottage and surrounding gardens as their lives are in turmoil and as their lives are at peace. The book threads in the perfect amount of witchcraft / magical realism in each storyline that also intertwines with the cottage and garden.
At its core, Weyward is a story about female empowerment and resilience. The author does an amazing job of writing about the strength and courage of women as well as the support and friendships that women need to navigate the world - with or without witchy powers. I’d say that is quite an important and relevant topic in the world today. It’s the perfect read for the young, courageous, witchy women of the world and all who love and support them.
