Review :: The Lost Apothecary
The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner (☆☆☆)
An enjoyable read perfect for when you’re feeling a little witchy! The book time hops between present-day London and London in the 1790s and focuses on an apothecary who helps women liberate themselves from the dangerous men in their life via poison. The apothecary, herself recovering from trauma, runs her business in secret until it is disrupted by 12-year-old Eliza, sent to help her mistress obtain poison, and precocious enough to work her way into the apothecary’s life and heart. In the present-day storyline, a female historian stumbles upon a clue to the story in the Thames River - an apothecary bottle bearing a secret marking, and begins her own journey to both find the answers to this mystery as well as her own version of liberation.
