Review :: Braiding Sweetgrass
“We need acts of restoration, not only for polluted waters and degraded lands, but also for our relationship to the world. We need to restore honor to the way we live, so that when we walk through the world we don’t have to avert our eyes with shame so that we can hold our heads up high and receive the respectful acknowledgment of the rest of the earth’s beings.” - Robin Wall Kimmerer
Braiding Sweetgrass gets five stars from me, and I have recommended it over and over this year to friends and family. An indigenous female poet and botanist… yes, please. Robin writes with such passion and her style is gorgeous! She explores and explains the world around her, her indigenous roots and how they shaped the way she views the land and the way we treat it. I adored her stories about reciprocity and healing, and admired the way she challenged the (mostly male and white) science community with her ideas, teachings, and projects. It’s a great jumping-off point if you are just starting to explore your relationship with nature, and/or are beginning to feel the stress of the climate crisis.
