On A Personal Note : Prepping for Graduation
This Spring is truly one for the books - senior year for one, eighth grade year for another, and third grade for the youngest, and ALL THE THINGS for me and my partner. It looks like:
SENIOR:
Applying and deciding on college and if it’s the right fit for him,
Going to prom with a big group of friends in the same suits they wore to homecoming and/or maybe prom last year, because there just wasn’t time or priority on any sort of tux situation (do kids even do tuxes anymore?)
Having a call with a GOLF COACH, and being offered a roster spot for next year - truly a dream come true, pending acceptance into the university 🤞
GOLF SEASON which means multiple tournaments (three this week!) and missing a lot of school, so making sure we make up enough work to, you know, graduate.
Coordinating family and friends coming in town for the actual graduation and making sure we get the correct grad ceremony so he can walk with all his friends.
EIGHTH:
Promotion ceremony and party, thankfully NOT having to decide WHERE to go to High School since they will transition to our local school down the street (Hooray for walking to school next year!)
Planning and forecasting for freshman year classes and making sure we get on the correct track, deciding on clubs and activities
Prepping for summer theater camp! Tech track YEAR FOUR!
Working on her art portfolio and encouraging her to create regularly
THIRD GRADER:
Trying to start and finish his third grade Science Fair Project - the only homework we have for the whole year, basically, and we are STRUGGLING
Having playdates and making new friends (For me, this is a struggle!)
Making items for his FINAL student store of the year including stickers and 3D printed fidgets and dragons
Prepping for his FIRST year of Theater Camp - he’s nervous, I’m excited! Last year summer camp at school was a disaster, so I’m hopeful this will be the thing that makes his summer great.
MYSELF AND PARTNER:
Two demanding full time jobs.
For me, a huge event the weekend before graduation.
A house to sell in another state
One elderly parent to take care of (he’s in assisted living but my partner is responsible.)
A graduation weekend and party to plan and host family and friends in our home
Prepping our home for that 😜
Trying to squeeze in doctors and dentists and self care and grocery store trips and dinners and events with friends.
Trying to… be married?
Watching, while all of this is going on, the world go to war, gas and grocery prices increasing, and just an overall feeling of unease under the current US administration, and a feeling of growing discontent among…. everyone??
I know I will want to remember these moments, so, here I am, making the lists and moving things forward, and trying to write down the memories (and take the photos!) along the way.
